The LED indicator on your ZEN76 On/Off Switch provides useful visual cues, but you might want more control over its behavior. Whether you’d like a softer glow, a different color, or to disable it entirely, the ZEN76 offers various customization options to fit your preferences.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to adjust the LED indicator—turning it off, changing its brightness, selecting a different color, and modifying when it’s illuminated. Whether you want it on when the switch is off or off when the switch is on, you’ll learn how to configure it to suit your needs.

Let’s get started!

All About Advanced Settings

The terminology for advanced settings varies depending on your Z-Wave hub. For instance, Hubitat lists them under the “Preferences” tab, SmartThings labels them as “Settings,” while Home Assistant and HomeSeer use the official term “Parameters.” Despite these differences in naming, the purpose remains the same: configuring consistent behavior for your device. We provide the full list of settings available for each device in our Knowledge Base.

Each advanced setting consists of four key parts:

  • Label: If your device is properly integrated with your hub, this will display as the setting's name. Hubs like SmartThings show only the label and description.
  • Parameter Number & Description: Most hubs, such as Hubitat and Home Assistant, list the parameter number along with the label and description.
  • Values: These are the selectable options for each setting. Some are simple (e.g., Enable/Disable), while others use numerical values.
  • Size: This is required in some systems when manually changing advanced settings (e.g., Home Assistant) or in hubs that do not provide direct access to settings.

It's also important to note that not all hubs allow access to advanced settings. For example, alarm panels like Alarm.com and Ring may recognize the device and offer integration but do not permit modifying its settings.

LED Behavior

Parameter 2: Choose if you want the LED indicator to turn on when the switch (light) is on or off, or if you want it to remain on or off at all times.

Values: 0 – LED on when switch off; 1 – LED on when switch on; 2 – LED always off; 3 – LED always on. Default: 0.

NOTE: tap the upper paddle 6 times quickly to change this mode.

The ZEN76 On/Off Switch provides multiple ways to customize its LED indicator, so you can adjust its behavior to match your preferences:

  • LED on when the switch is off – Perfect for nighttime use, this setting keeps the LED lit when the lights are off, making it easy to find the switch in the dark.
  • LED on when the switch is on – Ideal if you want the LED to mirror the light’s status, illuminating only when the connected light is turned on.
  • LED always off – For a clean, uniform look, this option disables the LED entirely, ensuring it stays off at all times.
  • LED always on – A great choice if you prefer the LED to remain visible in low-light environments or as a constant indicator that the switch is powered and functioning.

You can quickly cycle through these LED behavior settings using physical paddle presses on the switch itself. By default, the LED turns on when the switch is off. However, to change this:

  1. Tap the upper paddle 6 times in quick succession to cycle to the next available setting.
  2. Repeat the process if you want to continue cycling through the options until you reach your preferred LED behavior.

This simple method allows you to adjust the LED indicator without needing a smart hub or app, making customization quick and convenient. We list all of the options in the advanced settings article for each device, including the standard default value.

LED Indicator Color

Parameter 14: Choose the color of the LED indicator.

Values: 0 – white; 1 – blue; 2 – green; 3 – red. Default: 1.

The ZEN76 On/Off Switch lets you personalize its LED indicator settings, giving you full control over how it provides visual feedback. With four color options—white, blue, green, or red—you can match the LED to your décor or use it for a functional purpose.

The LED serves as a quick reference for the switch’s status, adapting to your chosen settings. Whether it signals when the switch is on, off, or in a specific mode, the selected color remains consistent whenever the indicator is active.

  • Setting the LED to blue ensures it always glows blue when in use.
  • Choosing red means the LED will consistently light up red whenever active.

This consistency makes the LED a dependable visual cue, helping users easily identify the switch’s status at a glance.

Choosing the Right LED Color

The color you choose can enhance both the functionality and style of your switch:

  • White – A clean, modern look that blends seamlessly into contemporary or professional spaces.
  • Blue – A soothing, easy-to-spot color, ideal for nighttime visibility without being too harsh.
  • Green – A vibrant, energy-conscious choice, perfect for indicating eco-friendly or low-power usage.
  • Red – A strong, attention-grabbing color that can serve as a warning, reminder, or status indicator.

By customizing your ZEN76 LED settings, you can tailor its appearance and function to suit your home’s design and your specific needs.

LED Indicator Brightness

Parameter 15: Choose the LED indicator's brightness level.

Values: 0 – bright (100%); 1 – medium (60%); 2 – low (30%). Default: 1.

In addition to adjusting the LED color and behavior, the ZEN76 On/Off Switch allows you to fine-tune the LED indicator’s brightness to match your environment and preferences. Whether you prefer a bright, easy-to-see light or a more subtle glow, you can select from three different brightness levels:

  • High (100%) – The LED glows at full brightness, ensuring clear visibility even in bright rooms or during the day. This setting is ideal for high-traffic areas, offices, or places where a strong visual cue is needed.
  • Medium (60%) (Default Setting) – A well-balanced brightness level that is noticeable without being overpowering. This option works well for most household settings, offering clear visibility without excessive glare.
  • Low (30%) – A softer glow designed for bedrooms, nurseries, or nighttime use, reducing glare and minimizing light distractions while still providing a subtle visual reference.

By adjusting the LED brightness, you can enhance both functionality and comfort, ensuring that the dimmer integrates seamlessly into your home without unwanted distractions.

Disable LED Indicator Flash On Setting Change

Parameter 18: Enable / disable LED indicator for setting changes. Choose if you want the LED indicators to flash whenever a parameter (setting) is adjusted on the device to confirm the change. Disable this feature if you're using the LED indicators in automations.

Values: 0 – LED indicators flash to confirm a setting change; 1 - LED indicators don't flash if a setting is changed. Default: 0.

The ZEN76 Switch includes an LED confirmation feature that briefly flashes the indicator whenever you adjust a setting or parameter. This visual cue provides instant feedback, confirming that your changes have been successfully applied. However, you can turn this feature on or off based on your preferences.

When to Keep LED Flashing Enabled:

  • Instant Confirmation – Ensures you immediately see when a setting has been updated.
  • Easier Troubleshooting – Helps verify changes, such as LED color or brightness, without guessing.

When to Disable LED Flashing:

  • For Smart Home Automations – Prevents unexpected flashes that might interfere with automated routines.
  • For a Seamless Look – Maintains a steady LED appearance without brief interruptions.

By customizing this setting, you can fine-tune the ZEN76’s LED behavior to better align with your home’s aesthetics and automation setup.
