The LED indicator on your ZEN30 Double Switch provides helpful visual feedback, but you may want more flexibility in how it functions. Whether you prefer a dim glow, a specific color, or no illumination at all, the Double Switch offers multiple customization options to suit your needs.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to turn off the LED indicator, adjust its brightness, change the color, and modify the behavior—such as keeping it illuminated when the dimmer is off or switching it off when the dimmer is on. By the end, you’ll have complete control over the LED settings to match your personal preferences and home environment.

Let’s dive in!

All About Advanced Settings

The terminology for advanced settings varies depending on your Z-Wave hub. For instance, Hubitat lists them under the “Preferences” tab, SmartThings labels them as “Settings,” while Home Assistant and HomeSeer use the official term “Parameters.” Despite these differences in naming, the purpose remains the same: configuring consistent behavior for your device. We provide the full list of settings available for each device in our Knowledge Base.

Each advanced setting consists of four key parts:

  • Label: If your device is properly integrated with your hub, this will display as the setting's name. Hubs like SmartThings show only the label and description.
  • Parameter Number & Description: Most hubs, such as Hubitat and Home Assistant, list the parameter number along with the label and description.
  • Values: These are the selectable options for each setting. Some are simple (e.g., Enable/Disable), while others use numerical values.
  • Size: This is required in some systems when manually changing advanced settings (e.g., Home Assistant) or in hubs that do not provide direct access to settings.

It's also important to note that not all hubs allow access to advanced settings. For example, alarm panels like Alarm.com and Ring may recognize the device and offer integration but do not permit modifying its settings.

LED Behavior

Parameter 1 and parameter 2 allow you to set the LED function for the dimmer and relay portion separately, and choose when they should be on or off. You can even set them to different values!

Dimmer LED Indicator

Parameter 1: Choose if you want the LED indicator to turn on when the dimmer (light) is on or off, or if you want it to remain on or off at all times. This setting is for the top status indicator only.

Values:  0 – LED on when switch off; 1 – LED on when switch on; 2 – LED always off; 3 – LED always on. Default: 0.

Relay LED Indicator

Parameter 2: Choose if you want the LED indicator to turn on when the relay is on or off, or if you want it to remain on or off at all times

Values: 0 – LED indicator is on when relay is off; 1 – LED indicator on when relay is on; 2 – LED indicator is always off; 3 – LED indicator is always on. Default: 0.

The ZEN30 Double Switch offers several customizable settings for its LED indicator, allowing you to choose how it functions based on your preferences:

  • LED on when the dimmer or relay is off – Ideal for nighttime visibility, this setting keeps the LED illuminated when the lights are off, making it easier to locate the switch in the dark.
  • LED on when the dimmer or relay is on – A practical option for those who prefer the LED to reflect the status of the connected light, meaning the LED is only lit when the light is on.
  • LED always off – If you prefer a uniform look across all switches with no LED indicator visible, this setting ensures the LED remains off at all times.
  • LED always on – Useful for those who want the LED to remain illuminated for easy visibility in low-light conditions or as a constant indicator that the switch is powered and operational.

You can quickly cycle through these LED behavior settings using physical paddle presses on the dimmer or the relay themselves. By default, the LED turns on when the switch is off. However, to change this:

  1. Tap the upper paddle 6 times in quick succession to cycle to the next available setting for the dimmer; or tap the relay button 6 times quickly to cycle through to the next available setting for the relay LED.
  2. Repeat the process if you want to continue cycling through the options until you reach your preferred LED behavior.

This simple method allows you to adjust the LED indicator without needing a smart hub or app, making customization quick and convenient. We list all of the options in the advanced settings article for each device, including the standard default value.

LED Indicator Color

The ZEN30 Double Switch allows you to customize the LED indicator color for both the dimmer and the relay separately, giving you control over the device's visual feedback. You can choose from four LED colors: white, blue, green, or red, allowing the indicator to blend with your décor or serve a functional purpose.

Dimmer LED Indicator Color

Parameter 3: Choose the color of the LED indicators for the dimmer.

Values: 0 – white; 1 – blue; 2 – green; 3 – red. Default: 0.

Relay LED Indicator Color

Parameter 4: Choose the color of the LED indicator for the relay.

Values: 0 – white; 1 – blue; 2 – green; 3 – red. Default: 0.

The LED light provides a quick and easy way to determine the dimmer or relay status based on your selected settings. Whether the LED is used to indicate when the switch is on, off, or in a specific mode, the chosen color remains consistent whenever the indicator is active.

  • Selecting blue ensures the LED always glows blue when in use.
  • Choosing red means the LED will consistently illuminate red whenever active.
  • This consistency makes the LED indicator a reliable and predictable status tool for users who depend on visual cues.

Choosing the Right LED Color

The color you select can serve both a functional and aesthetic purpose:

  • White – A neutral, modern option suitable for professional or minimalist spaces.
  • Blue – A calming, familiar color often used for nighttime visibility.
  • Green – A distinct and eco-friendly choice, great for energy-conscious users.
  • Red – A bold, attention-grabbing color that may signal urgency or importance.

By adjusting your ZEN30 Double Switch's LED settings, you can personalize the device to match your home environment and preferences while ensuring it serves a practical purpose.

LED Indicator Brightness

Beyond customizing the LED color and behavior, the ZEN72 Dimmer also lets you control the brightness level of the LED indicator to suit your preferences and surroundings. Whether you need a highly visible indicator or a softer glow, you can choose from three brightness settings.

Dimmer LED Indicator Brightness

Parameter 5: Choose the LED indicators’ brightness level for the dimmer.

Values: 0 – bright (100%); 1 – medium (60%); 2 – low (30%). Default: 1.

Relay LED Indicator Brightness

Parameter 6: Choose the LED indicators’ brightness level for the relay.

Values: 0 – bright (100%); 1 – medium (60%); 2 – low (30%). Default: 1.

  • Bright (100%) – The LED shines at full intensity, making it easily noticeable even in well-lit areas. This setting is ideal for daytime use or spaces where clear visibility is essential.
  • Medium (60%) (Default Setting) – Provides a balanced level of brightness that is visible yet not overpowering, making it well-suited for everyday household use.
  • Low (30%) – A dimmed setting designed for bedrooms, nighttime environments, or for those who prefer minimal illumination. This option reduces glare and prevents unnecessary light disturbances.

By adjusting the LED brightness, you can enhance both functionality and comfort, ensuring that the dimmer integrates seamlessly into your home without unwanted distractions.
