Not able to add the ZEN74 Toggle Dimmer to Home Assistant? Try excluding it first!
A device doesn't need to be included first to be able to exclude it from the Home Assistant network. The process will act as a soft reset and help with any inclusion or configuration issues. However, please note that exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
Here's how to exclude the Toggle Dimmer from Home Assistant:
- In Home Assistant: open Settings > Devices and Services > Z-Wave JS > Configure
- Click on Remove Device
- Click on Start Exclusion
- Toggle the dimmer DOWN 3 times very quickly (the LED indicator will start flashing)
- Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed, and you should now be able to add it to your system
After Home Assistant confirms the exclusion worked, try pairing the ZEN74 to Home Assistant again.
Give these troubleshooting steps a try if you're still not able to include or control the ZEN74:
- Try to exclude the dimmer once more in case the command didn't go through. You can also try toggling the switch 4-5 times in case 3 toggles aren't being registered.
- If you have a Z-Wave signal repeater available (switch, relay, smart plug, dedicated repeater - any Z-Wave device that doesn't rely on battery power), we'd recommend moving it between the switch and hub and then healing the network. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes.
- If your ZEN74 is installed far away from the hub, try bringing the hub directly in front of the dimmer. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out!
- If you were able to include the ZEN74, but it's not responding to Z-Wave commands, check out these connectivity troubleshooting steps.
