Here's what to try if your dimmer is unresponsive to Z-Wave commands:
Your ZEN72 has range of up to 500 feet line of sight, but interferences like large furniture, thick walls, and metal elements can shorten range. Ultimately range is determined by the specific structure of your home and the strength of your mesh network.
If you're seeing connectivity issues with your dimmer, here are several things to try:
1. If there's a way to refresh your Z-Wave network, start with that. This will help configure your network and help your hub find the most effective communication route to the dimmer.
2. Try excluding and re-including the dimmer. Kind of like refreshing the network, maybe the hub hasn't found the most efficient communication route to the dimmer; exclusion can help reestablish connectivity.
3. Try bringing Z-Wave hub closer to dimmer. After moving it, exclude and re-include the dimmer with the hub in the new spot. If the dimmer includes successfully, stays connected, and is responsive to remote commands, it's possible the previous location was out of the hub's range or there are too many interferences in that area.
4. Check the material of your switch box. If it's metal, this may be the source of the issue - especially if you've never had good connectivity between the dimmer and hub.
Metal is really effective at disrupting Z-Wave signals; since the dimmer is essentially encased in metal, it can prevent signals from being sent or received. If possible, try moving the hub closer or re-installing the unit in a plastic box if available.
