How to Add Your ZEN55 Smoke & CO Detector Bridge to Home Assistant

Once your ZEN55 Smoke & CO Detector Bridge is properly powered and installed, it's time to include the device to Home Assistant. Inclusion is a simple process; just follow the steps below to have your device added to your Home Assistant in no time.

We recommend using the new JS Z-Wave integration for optimal results.

Follow these steps to  include the ZEN55 Smoke & CO Detector Bridge to Home Assistant:

Important Note: A steady, blinking green is the standard state for the device; as long as the unit has power, it will blink green at a steady pace. The device has an internal relay, which can turn on and off with a click of the Z-Wave button. This means that when you are attempting to include or exclude the device, the clicks need to happen as fast as possible; if the clicks are not completed fast enough, the relay will engage instead and the device will not enter inclusion or exclusion mode. You will know you have clicked fast enough when the LED indicator begins flashing rapidly.

  1. Ensure the unit is installed and powered correctly
  2. In Home Assistant: click on Add a Z-Wave Device
  3. When Home Assistant displays the following message: "Your Z-Wave controller is now in inclusion mode. Follow the directions that came with your device to trigger pairing on the device," click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing)
  4. If asked to enter the SmartStart security PIN, enter the PIN located on the back of the device, next to the Z-Wave Plus logo
  5. The LED indicator will blink green to signal communication, and turn green for 2 seconds if inclusion is successful
  6. Home Assistant will confirm that the relay was added, and it will be immediately visible in your device list

If Home Assistant is having trouble recognizing the device: try removing or excluding the relay first. This is the best way to resolve any configuration and inclusion issues, as it also acts as a soft Z-Wave reset for the device. This can be done even if the ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor has never been included before. To exclude the device:

  1. In Home Assistant: open Configuration > Integrations > Z-Wave JS > Configure
  2. Click on Remove Node
  3. Click on Start Exclusion
  4. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing)
  5. Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed and you should now be able to add it to your system
