Once you've confirmed your new ZEN75 Heavy Duty Switch works manually, you can go ahead and pair it to your Hubitat.
We recommend using the custom driver with the ZEN75 switch. This ensures you have access to all of the advanced settings and allows for correct recognition of the switch on the Hubitat platform. Without the custom driver, you will not be able to access all of the advanced settings, nor can you program the multi-tap functionality for scene control.
With the advent of Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR), Hubitat now offers the option to include your long range supporting devices via standard Z-Wave mesh or with ZWLR. You can read more here about how the standard mesh and ZWLR differ and decide which is the best method for you. Please note: ZWLR is direct hub to device communication, which means the device cannot be programmed via Direct Association, and will not be used as a repeater for any other Z-Wave device in the mesh network.
Standard Mesh Inclusion
Smart Start Inclusion
On the Hubitat app:
- Open the Tools tab (wrench icon on the bottom)
- Scroll to the bottom, select Z-Wave
- This will take you to a screen where you can select either Smart Start or regular inclusion
- Select Smart Start
- This will take you to the smart start inclusion list. Devices will be displayed there that are in the process of inclusion through Smart Start.
- Select the QR symbol in the top right to open the camera for the DSK scan. Scan the QR code on the lower metal plate of the switch.
- Power the device (important to do this AFTER QR scan)
- The device integration will begin. The window will appear asking you to name the device; click Save after naming
- Finishing inclusion may take a few minutes
If you have any issues with Smart Start Inclusion on Hubitat, please review this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf-Fldjb0to. The steps should be the same whether you have a C-7 or C-8.

Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) Inclusion
If you want to include the device with ZWLR, first ensure you're using the model C-8 hub or later, with a minimum platform version of 2.3.9 or later in the US region only. You also need to ensure your device model and firmware version supports ZWLR.
Next, you'll want to install the SmartStart Manager app. You can read more details on this custom app here, and be sure to thank Jeff for his work on the app!
To include the device as a ZWLR device, Z-Wave SmartStart must be used. Note that all ZWLR devices must support SmartStart, but not all SmartStart devices support ZWLR. SmartStart will still include the device as a traditional Z-Wave node if LR is not supported.
To add a device using SmartStart with ZWLR in Hubitat once the SmartStart Manager app is installed:
- Locate the SmartStart QR code for the device on the lower metal plate of the switch. The QR code sticker also contains the numeric DSK (device-specific key) next to it; you will need this later. Do not power on the device at this time.
- For the Hubitat 2.0 mobile app: go to Devices > + (plus icon) > Add SmartStart Devices
- For the current 1.x app --- do not edit the SmartStart entry as LR is not manually selectable at this time) Tools > Z-Wave Tools.
- Select the SmartStart button.
- Select the QR code icon from the top-right (and allow camera access for the app if prompted).
- Scan the QR code for the device that you located in Step 1.
- Provide a name for the device when prompted (to be used on the hub, e.g., "Living Room Dimmer" or "Hallway Motion"; this can be changed on the hub later).
- Power on the switch. The inclusion process should start immediately and the device should be automatically added to your hub.
If you have any trouble including your device, please try excluding the switch before including it. The process can be done even if the switch was never included and acts as a type of Z-Wave reset. If exclusion does not resolve the issue, please try a factory reset on the ZEN75.
If you're still unable to include the device, please reach out to our team and make sure you include both the hub and the ZEN75 LED response to exclusion, reset, and inclusion attempts in your message to us to expedite troubleshooting, as these are the first steps we will ask you take.
Display
We've included some screenshots below showing how the ZEN75 will display for you in Hubitat with the custom driver installed. For more information on what each page is for and how you can use it, please refer to the Hubitat documentation.
1. Device row in the main UI screen:
2. Z-Wave Info: this is where you can view the hardware and firmware version of the unit, security information, etc.
3. Commands: allows you to view commands that the device supports, send these commands, and view the current states of the device.
4. You can set any parameters that may not be visible in the preferences screen for the device based on the provided advanced settings documentation.
5. Preferences: you can set the available settings for the device to customize it.
6. Device Info: where you can change the device name or label and view or change other settings related to the device on your hub.
7. Events: shows a recent history of events (as would have been seen as changes under "Current States") and commands sent to the device (even if no state change resulted). Both can be helpful for troubleshooting.
8. Logs: displays a list of Past Logs page filtered to entries for this device. Go to the hub Logs page for more information.
