The little details matter when it comes to finalizing the installation of your ZEN22 switch - let's choose the right accessories!
In order to have your new ZEN22 dimmer switch match the color of your existing white wall plates (or if you're are looking for new wall plates), we would recommend getting the Leviton white wall plates. They should be available in your local hardware store.
This is product is discontinued and replaced with ZEN72.
For 3-way installations (or set-ups including more than 1 switch), if you'd like to have the mechanical on / off switches match, then the Leviton white on / off switches would be the best match, and can be found in most hardware stores. Zooz switches do not require additional add-on switches for 3-or more-way locations (yes, you save time and money!). You'll need to connect them to regular on/off 3-way switches at the other end of the installations.
Looking to dim from both sides of your installation? The ZEN22 can support a momentary switch in a 3-way set-up. A momentary switch is a type of push button that only works while being pressed and held. If you'd like to be able to dim from both locations, you could use a ZEN22 in the primary box and our ZAC99 momentary switch in the other box. They would need to be wired according to the ZEN22 diagrams and would also need a change in the advanced settings for the ZEN22 to set the 3-way switch type to momentary for the ZEN22. We can help with that!
Note: This model only comes in white and the paddles are not interchangeable. If you're looking for other colors, check out the 700 series version - the ZEN72 Dimmer which comes in light almond, brown, and black paddle options.
What will I need for the installation? We recommend preparing the tools you'll need and closely reading the instructions provided with your Zooz switch BEFORE beginning the installation. We do include a neutral jumper needed in most installs in the box with your Zooz switch, but if you need additional wire or wire nuts to complete the installation, then the recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.
Important: Double check the ZEN22's maximum load specifications before installing. The ZEN22 is rated to handle up to 500W for incandescent bulbs or 150W for LED lights. The ZEN22 Dimmer cannot be used to control a receptacle and we wouldn't recommend mixing incandescent and LED bulbs in the same installation. Please check out our helpful article to learn more about what can or cannot be connected to Zooz switches here: General Questions about Zooz Light Switches.
If you're not sure about how to wire your ZEN22 dimmer then try these tips before installing:
- Double check you're using the correct diagram! Wiring diagrams for single pole installations can be found under each switch's product page, while 3-or more-way diagrams are located right here in our Knowledge Base.
- Confirm all of your wires before making any connections. Zooz switches can be wired differently than your existing switches, and may even have a different wiring diagram than another model Zooz switch. For example, your wiring ZEN27 won't use the same diagram as your ZEN22. Use this guide to properly identify your wires before installing.
- Check that you have neutral wiring. All Zooz switches require neutral for installation. Not sure if you have it? Contact us!
- Hire a licensed professional. If you don't know your way around electrical installations, then we would recommend hiring a licensed electrician to install the switch.
- Ask us for help! Your home's wiring might be different than what's in the diagram and that's okay. Submit a ticket with your order number for your unit (so we can verify the model, Amazon order numbers are fine too!) and images of the wiring in each switch box (to ensure the most accurate directions) and we'll be happy to assist with the wiring.
