Get the right accessories to make sure your ZEN51 works well in your installation!

This version works in single pole installations ONLY when the distance between the relay and the wall switch is less than 10 feet.

  • On/off Z-Wave control for 120V and dry contact applications: great for lighting control or 120V load monitoring (sump pumps, motion lights)
  • Installs behind the existing wall switch or at the fixture (if neutral is not available in the switch box)
  • Pigtail wires included for hassle-free set-up
  • Perfect if you'd like to leave your favorite wall switch style or color but add Z-Wave to it
  • Smart bulb mode: disable manual and/or Z-Wave control to control your smart bulbs via Z-Wave only without cutting power to them
  • Scene control: choose from 7 multi-tap triggers to expand the functionality of the connected switch (available on hubs that support multi-tap triggers*)
  • Multicolor LED indicator for easier pairing and diagnostics
  • Compatible with quality LED and incandescent bulbs (don't connect to ballast tube lights, switched receptacles, or fans over 3A / 5 years old; NOTE: FEIT bulbs are not recommended)

The key to any successful installation is prep! Before doing anything, read the instructions included with your ZEN51 and gather the tools you'll need. Check if additional wire or wire nuts are needed to complete the installation.

The recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.

Important: Before installing the switch, make sure the ZEN51 is suitable for the location. The maximum loads for the ZEN51 are 960W incandescent, 150W LED bulbs, 10A resistive, and 1/2 HP fan motors The ZEN51 relay should not be connected to a mixed load of incandescent and LED bulbs and is not rated to control a receptacle.

Here are a few other things to check before installing your switch:

  • Use the appropriate wiring diagram! We have wiring diagrams for various installations. Wiring diagrams for simple single pole installations can be found under the ZEN51's product page. If you are unable to match the wiring, please send us images of the wiring available and we will verify if the ZEN51 can be installed.

  • Connect the neutral. Your ZEN51, similar to the Zooz switches, needs neutral to be installed. If you're not sure whether you have neutral in the box, reach out to us! Otherwise, the ZEN51 can be installed at the fixture if neutral is not available in the switch box.

  • Ask a professional. For safety reasons, we don't recommend installing the switch yourself if you're not comfortable with an electrical installation. If you're able to, hire a licensed professional to help with the installation.

  • Contact us for help. What's on our diagrams might be different than what's in your switch box. In that case, we'll be happy to help create custom wiring instructions for you. Just submit a ticket with your order number with the unit (so we can verify the model; you can send us an Amazon order number too!) and images of the wiring in each switch box (so we can send the most accurate directions).

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions about your ZEN51 Dry Contact Relay!
