The ZEN17 Universal Relay has so many possible uses; however, it's imperative to use the correct power supply and ensure everything is wired correctly.
The power supply only provides power to the Z-Wave chip and electronics within the unit. Therefore, the power supply doesn't need to be rated for a lot of power, even if the ZEN17 will be controlling a heavy-duty load. Battery based power supplies are not recommended to use with the ZEN17.
The ZEN17 can be powered by one of two power supplies linked below:
- USB C with a 1 A Power Adapter plug (you just need a USB-C wall adapter, the USB-C cable is included with the device)
- The power adapter must be a basic 5V / 1A USB-C power supply. Do not use Apple chargers or any USB PD (Power Delivery) adapters, as they may output higher voltage and damage the device. NO MORE THAN 5V or 1A can be applied to the USB-C input.
- 12-24 V AC/DC adapter (or any other 12-24 V AC/DC power supply)
- We highly suggest testing the output voltage of your power supply, especially when powering the ZEN17 from a 24V transformer. We're finding many newer transformers that are rated for 24V are actually outputting more than 28-29V, which will damage the ZEN17. No more than 28V can be applied to the terminals when powering the ZEN17; this will damage the device.
Note: Please make sure you do NOT use both power supplies at the same time. Please do NOT use laptop or tablet chargers to power the ZEN17.
Important: Before making any connections, ensure you're applying the power supply to the correct terminals! There should never be any voltage applied to the Sw input terminals.
