Not able to add the ZEN72 Dimmer to your Home Assistant network? Try exclusion!
The ZEN72 Dimmer, or any other Z-Wave device, doesn't need to be included in the network in order to be excluded. The process will act as a soft reset and help with any inclusion or configuration issues. However, please note that exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
Follow these steps to exclude the ZEN72:
- In Home Assistant: open Settings > Devices and Services > Z-Wave JS > Configure
- Click on Remove Device
- Click on Start Exclusion
- Tap the lower paddle of the dimmer 3 times very quickly (the LED indicator will start flashing)
- Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed, and you should now be able to add it to your system
Once the exclusion process is complete, try pairing the ZEN72 dimmer to Home Assistant again.
Still can't add the ZEN72? Try these troubleshooting steps:
- Give exclusion another go. It's possible the exclusion commands from the first run weren't registered correctly.
- Tap the paddle 4-5 times as quickly as possible during exclusion or inclusion in case the commands aren't recognized in 3 taps.
- Add a Z-Wave signal repeater (switch, relay, smart plug, dedicated repeater - any Z-Wave device that doesn't rely on battery power) between the switch and hub. Heal the network after adding the repeater. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes.
- Bring the hub within direct range of the switch to rule out any range or connectivity issues. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out!
