ZEN77 Dimmer not pairing with Home Assistant? Let's try exclusion!
It may sound strange, but exclusion is just a reset. A device doesn't need to be included to be able to be excluded. However, please note that exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
You'll have your ZEN77 excluded in no time with the steps below:
- In Home Assistant: open Settings > Devices and Services > Z-Wave JS > Configure
- Click on Remove Device
- Click on Start Exclusion
- Tap the lower paddle of the dimmer 3 times very quickly (the LED indicator will start flashing)
- Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed, and you should now be able to add it to your system
Once Home Assistant confirms the process is complete, give the inclusion process another try.
If your ZEN77 is still having trouble, give these steps a try:
- Try excluding the device one more time. It's possible the command didn't register correctly on the first try.
- When excluding or including, try 4-5 taps instead of 3 in case the command isn't going through.
- Try a Z-Wave signal repeater (any non-battery powered Z-Wave device) between the dimmer and hub. Remember to heal the network after adding the repeater. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes. This can be especially helpful if your switch box is made of metal (since metal shortens and interferes with Z-Wave signals).
- You can also try bringing the hub within direct range of the dimmer to rule out any range issues. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out!
- If your dimmer did connect but is not reacting to remote commands, give these troubleshooting steps a try.
