The best step to take if your ZEN74 Toggle Dimmer won't add, is to exclude it!
Exclusion is recommended as the process can help with a variety of inclusion and configuration issues. Your ZEN74 didn't need to be previously included to be able to be excluded. However, please note that exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
Use these instructions to remove the ZEN74 from SmartThings:
- Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
-
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings
- Tap Z-Wave Utilities
- Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
- While the app is searching for a device, toggle the switch DOWN 3 times very quickly
- The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done
Once the process is completed, you can try including the dimmer to SmartThings again using the process shown here.
Give the following a try if you're still having trouble getting the ZEN74 connected:
- Try the exclusion process one more time. Sometimes commands from the first run aren't registered correctly, so it's worth a try.
- Try adding a Z-Wave signal repeater (any non-battery powered Z-Wave device) between the dimmer and hub to see if that helps communication. If you have a hand-held secondary hub, try using it to include the dimmer.
- Try the inclusion process again, only this time instead of toggling 3 times, toggle the switch up 6 or 7 times as quickly as possible. This can help make sure the commands go through.
