INSTALL THE EDGE DRIVER AND INCLUDE THE ZEN37
First, you'll want to ensure you have installed the ZEN37 Edge Driver BEFORE you add the device to your hub.
- Next, include the ZEN37 Wall Remote to SmartThings and click on it to access all of the control options in the SmartThings app.
LINK THE REMOTE SWITCH TO YOUR SMART BULBS
There are a few different ways to program the ZEN37 Wall Remote to control your smart bulbs on SmartThings. Below, we provide instruction on scene control (recommended) and direct association (only if you have Z-Wave smart bulbs). Choose the method that works best for your specific installation type and needs.
SCENE CONTROL We recommend programming your smart bulb control via scene control, which will allow you to use the triggers from any button on your Wall Remote to initiate a different action.
Here is how to program your ZEN37 Wall Remote on SmartThings.
We've provided only a sample of some ideas on how you can use the device to activate your favorite smart bulb settings instantly:
- If button 1 is pressed once, toggle the state of my smart bulbs (turn them on if they're off or turn them off if they're on).
- If button 2 is double tapped, set my smart bulbs to bed-time scene (lights dimmed, set to warm yellow).
- If button 3 is tapped 3 times, set my smart bulbs to focus mode (full brightness, cool white).
Each button can be programmed for single tap, double tap, held, released, or multi-tap triggers (up to 5-taps) so you have endless possibilities with creative ways to use this device as a smart bulb remote control.
If you are looking to dim your smart bulb with the ZEN37 on SmartThings via scene control, please note that virtual/wireless dimming where you press the paddles and it sends a signal to the bulbs to start changing brightness can usually be accomplished by "held" and "released" button triggers and "start level change" / "stop level change" on the action side for the lights on most hubs. SmartThings doesn't currently support the action part of this rule, unfortunately so this method is not available on the platform.
DIRECT ASSOCIATION If you are using Z-Wave smart bulbs and they're added to your SmartThings hub with the same level of security as the Wall Remote, you can use direct association to control them from any of the 4 buttons on the Wall Remote:
- First, note the device ID's of your Z-Wave smart bulbs, you'll need them for the next steps.
- Click on the ZEN37 device in your SmartThings app, then tap the 3 dots in the top right corner of the screen to select Settings.
- Scroll down to Direct Association and type in the device ID's of the smart bulbs under the appropriate association group that corresponds to the button and functionality you want to accomplish:
- Group 2 and 3 with up to 10 devices for on/off control through basic set commands (single click for each button)
- Group 4 and 5 for dimming control through switch multilevel commands (press-and-hold buttons)
- Group 6, 7, 8, and 9 for toggle control of associated devices.
Once completed, return to the previous screen to save the new settings. Please remember to manually wake your ZEN34 Remote Switch so the new changes are received; just click the lower left button 6 times as quickly as possible to wake the device up.
