If you are unable to include your ZSE50 Siren & Chime to Home Assistant, start by excluding the device. This is a quick and easy process, and can be done even if the ZSE50 has never been successfully included. Exclusion simply acts as a soft reset to help with any configuration issues.
If Home Assistant is having trouble recognizing the device:
- In Home Assistant: open Settings > Devices and Services > Z-Wave JS > Configure
- Click on Remove Device
- Click on Start Exclusion
- Tap the “-” button 3 times quickly. The LED indicator will start blinking green, and the following message will play once: "Removing device."
- If exclusion is successful the LED indicator on the siren will turn green for 2 seconds, and play the following message: "Device removed."
- Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed, and you should now be able to add it to your system.
If exclusion fails, the LED indicator will turn red for 2 seconds and the following message will play once: "Removing device failed." If exclusion fails or you are unable to include the unit after a successful exclusion, please try a factory reset on the unit before attempting inclusion again.
SmartStart and Z-Wave Long Range Inclusion Troubleshooting
If exclusion is not successful, if you have previously added this device to your hub, if SmartStart failed, or if the device will not include, please follow the steps below in order. Removing the device from the provisioning list generally resolves most inclusion issues:
1. Check if the device is in the provisioning list:
- Settings:

- Devices & Services:

- Z-Wave:

- Configure Cogwheel:

- Provisioned Devices:

- Trash Icon (identify device by the DSK number):

- Unprovision:

The device has now been removed from the provisioning list.
2. Factory reset the ZSE50. After a successful reset, the device will disappear from the device list.
3. Remove the Siren from the outlet (it will then be on backup battery). Then, initiate SmartStart and plug the siren in once you have completed the ZWLR / SmartStart inclusion process and it is indicated to power on the device. Once the siren is returned to main power, it will start broadcasting and will be added.
