Exclusion should be your first move for all inclusion issues. You can exclude a Z-Wave device even if it was never properly included.
First, let's try including the Double Switch to Vera once more. Here's how to do it:
- Select the Devices tab in your Vera app. Then click on the gray "+ Add Device" button
- Choose Generic Z-Wave Device from the device list
- Tap the UPPER paddle of the dimmer 3 times quickly
- A new Z-Wave switch will appear on your device list
Once inclusion times out, try the steps below:
- Tap the green Retry button in the bottom right corner of the app - this will put Vera into exclusion mode.
- Tap the LOWER paddle of the dimmer 3 times quickly.
- Once exclusion goes through, Vera will automatically go back to the inclusion screen and start searching for the Double Switch.
- Tap the UPPER paddle of the dimmer 3 times quickly to include it.
If exclusion and re-inclusion didn't help, here are some other things to try:
- Let's try exclusion again. It's always possible the exclusion commands from the first attempt didn't go through.
- Try the inclusion process again, only this time instead of tapping the paddle 3 times, tap it 4-5 times as quickly as possible. It's possible the commands weren't registered correctly the first time around.
- If you have a Z-Wave signal repeater available, try installing it between the Double Switch and hub. A Z-Wave signal repeater is any non-battery powered Z-Wave device (a Z-Wave smart plug, switch, relay, or even dedicated repeater). If the issue is one of range or a different type of interference, the repeater should help the hub stabilize communication with the Double Switch. Be sure to exclude the Double Switch after adding the signal repeater, and then try inclusion again.
- If you have a hand-held secondary controller, try using it to include the device from a shorter range.
- If you receive confirmation that the Double Switch is added but it's not responding to remote commands, here's how to troubleshoot range and connectivity issues on Vera.
If you have any questions about anything above or find that these tips haven't helped your inclusion issue, don't hesitate to reach out! That's what we're here for!
