Recommended Accessories for Your ZEN21 On/Off Switch

Complete your ZEN21's look with the right tools and accessories:

This is product is discontinued and replaced with ZEN71.

What does that mean?

If you're wondering whether your new ZEN21 switch will match the color of your existing wall plates, or are looking for new wall plates for your home, then we would recommend the Leviton white wall plates. You can most likely find these in your local hardware store.

For 3-way installations or set-ups including more than 1 switch, if you're looking to have your mechanical on / off switches match then we would also recommend Leviton white on / off switches, also available in most hardware stores. Our switches don't need additional add-on switches for 3-or more-way locations and have to be wired to mechanical on/off 3-way switches at the other end of the installation.

Note: This model only comes in white and the paddles are not interchangeable. If you're looking for other colors, check out the 700 series version - the ZEN71 Switch which comes in light almond, brown, and black paddle options.

What will I need for the installation? We recommend preparing the tools you'll need and closely reading the instructions provided with your Zooz switch BEFORE beginning the installation. We do include a neutral jumper needed in most installs in the box with your Zooz switch, but if you need additional wire or wire nuts to complete the installation, then the recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.

Important: Double check the ZEN21's specifications before installing. The maximum loads for the ZEN21 are 960W for incandescent lighting, 150W for LED and CFL bulbs, and 1800W (15A) for resistive loads, or 3A for fan motors. The ZEN21 On / Off is not rated to control a receptacle and we do not recommend mixing incandescent and LED bulbs in the same fixture. You can read more about what can or cannot be connected to Zooz switches here: General Questions about Zooz Light Switches.

If you're not sure about how to wire your ZEN21 switch there are a few things you can do:

  • Make sure you're using the right diagram! Wiring diagrams for single pole installations can be found under each switch's product page, while 3-or more-way diagrams are located right here in our Knowledge Base.
  • Identify all of your wires before installing the switch. Zooz switches may be wired differently than your existing switches, and can even have a different wiring diagram than a different model Zooz switch. For example, your wiring ZEN26 won't use the same diagram as your ZEN21. Use this guide to properly identify your wires before installing.
  • Confirm you have neutral wiring. All Zooz switches require neutral for installation. Not sure if you have it? Contact us!
  • Hire a licensed electrician. If you don't feel confident around an electrical installation, then we would recommend hiring a professional to help with the installation to make sure there are no issues.
  • Reach out to us! The wiring of your house could differ from what's in the diagram and that's okay. Submit a ticket with your order number for your unit (to verify the model, Amazon order numbers are fine too!) and images of the wiring in each switch box (to ensure the most accurate directions) and we'll be happy to assist with custom wiring instructions.

Let us know if you have any other questions about your ZEN21 switch, we'll be happy to help!
