There are a few different ways to add the Motion Sensor to SmartThings, but you'll need to complete the check-list below first in each case:
This sensor works best with SmartThings when used with the lua Edge driver. However, it will work great out of the box as a motion sensor without the driver. It takes 5 minutes to install it, but it gives you access to advanced settings and bonus functionality like vibration reports. Please follow the simple instructions here to install the Edge driver prior to including the ZSE18,
After the driver installation is complete, you can include the sensor to the network using two different methods: by Battery or USB. Please ensure the sensor is only powered by one source, either battery or USB, not both. If powering by battery, please ensure you include it by the battery method. See the steps below:
Add the ZSE18 sensor to SmartThings, powered by battery:
- Keep the sensor's battery in the device for at least a minute
- Tap the plus icon in the home screen
- Tap Device
- Tap "Scan nearby" (in the corner of the screen)
- While the app says "Scanning...", press and release the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing)
Add the ZSE18 sensor to SmartThings, powered by USB:
- Make sure the sensor is within direct range of SmartThings
- Connect the sensor to the USB cable and power adapter. Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Tap the plus icon in the home screen
- Tap Device
- Tap "Scan nearby" (in the corner of the screen)
- While the app says "Scanning...", press and hold Z-Wave button for at least 5 seconds. Release the button as soon as the LED indicator starts blinking. If you hold it for too long, inclusion will fail.
* If you’re using an S2 hub, it will ask you to enter the DSK PIN or scan the QR code printed on the bottom part of the sensor to complete SmartStart inclusion.
If you're having issues adding the device to your hub, here's what to try. And let us know if you have any questions!
