How to Add Your ZEN52 Double Relay to SmartThings

The Double Relay will work great with SmartThings out of the box.

To fully customize your device and access the advanced settings, follow the instructions here to install the custom lua Edge driver for the ZEN52.

Here is how to quickly add it to your hub:

Important Note: A steady, blinking green is the standard state for the device; as long as the unit has power, it will blink green at a steady pace. The device has an internal relay, which can turn on and off with a click of the Z-Wave button. This means that when you are attempting to include or exclude the device, the clicks need to happen as fast as possible; if the clicks are not completed fast enough, the relay will engage instead and the device will not enter inclusion or exclusion mode. You will know you have clicked fast enough when the LED indicator begins flashing rapidly.

  1. Tap the plus icon in the home screen of the SmartThings app
  2. Tap Device
  3. Tap "Scan QR code." Scan the QR code printed on the back of the relay, next to the Z-Wave Plus logo. The LED indicator will blink green to signal communication and turn green for 2 seconds if inclusion is successful or turn red for 2 seconds if the pairing attempt fails.
  4. On the SmartThings app, select the hub and room you'd like the device added to and click Next
  5. When the app says "Get your device ready to connect," click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing). Alternatively, if the relay is already installed, you can simply toggle the external switch connected to ZEN51 very quickly from off to on, so: "up-down, up-down, up-down." Check out the video linked here to show you how this process works!
  6. A few seconds later, the app will display a new device on the screen. It may show the following message: "Some security features not supported" - just click OK and ignore it, as this will not impact the functionality or performance of your device.
  7. Click Done

If your ZEN52 Double Relay is having trouble being added, begin the exclusion process to help with any configuration or inclusion issues. It can be done even if the unit hasn't been added before:

  1. Tap on your hub in the home page of the app, or find it under Devices in the SmartThings app
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
  5. While the app is searching for a device, click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible. Alternatively, if the relay is already installed, you can simply toggle the external switch connected to ZEN52 very quickly from off to on, so: "up-down, up-down, up-down."
  6. The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done.
