ZEN71 Switch didn't pair on the first try? Let's try exclusion!
Exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
The exclusion process is a kind of soft reset that helps with any inclusion and configuration issues. Your ZEN71 Switch doesn't need to be included to the hub in order to be excluded.
Follow these steps to exclude the unit from SmartThings:
- Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
-
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings
- Tap Z-Wave Utilities
- Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
- While the app is searching for a device, tap the Lower Paddle 3 times as quickly as possible
- The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done
Wait until the hub confirms an unknown device was removed before trying to include the switch again using the process shown here.
If you still can't add the switch to SmartThings, give these steps a try:
- Try the exclusion process again! Sometimes the process doesn't work in the first try.
- When excluding or including the switch, instead of tapping the paddle 3 times, tap the paddle 4-5 times as quickly as possible.
- Adding a Z-Wave signal repeater (any non-battery powered Z-Wave device) between the switch and hub can help in case there is a connectivity issue. If you have a hand-held secondary hub, try using it to include the device.
- If your On/Off Switch was able to be connected but it's not responding to any remote commands, take a look at these troubleshoots that have helped users in the past.
