My ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor Shows Offline in SmartThings

Struggling with connectivity issues? Your ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor is included to SmartThings but it's showing offline? Let's rule out any potential range or connectivity issues first.

The best place to start is with the Network Repair feature in the SmartThings app to help refresh your mesh network connections. The route of communication is always established by the hub, not the device, and a Network Repair will allow the hub to ensure an efficient route of communication with each device in the network. Often this process will help you determine if you have any dead nodes or ghost devices in your network that are affecting communication.

Steps for Network Repair below:

  1. Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings

  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap Repair Z-Wave Network
  5. Tap Start Repair

Wait until you see the "Z-Wave Network Repair finished" message before sending any commands to your ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor (up to 15 minutes). When this is finished, try to include the device back into your network.

If Network Repair doesn't help:

  1. Exclude it from within direct range of the hub
  2. Re-include it from the same range

If you're now able to include the device successfully and the connection is steady, this points to either a range or interference issue. Large furniture, metal, stone and certain glass elements can affect Z-Wave signal. You can try adding signal repeating devices between the hub and the desired location to strengthen the Z-Wave signal. Any non-battery powered Z-Wave device can be used as a signal repeating device.

Try once more to exclude and re-include the device from the installation location directly. It's possible that SmartThings has not yet found the most efficient communication route to the ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor. This can occasionally happen when you include a device near the hub and then move it away to be installed.
