If your ZAC38 Range extender is powered and included to the hub but it is not responding to Z-Wave commands, try the simple troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue!
While the ZAC38 is a Z-Wave Plus device that has range of up to 400 feet (line of sight); interferences like stone, metal, and thick walls can substantially shorten the range for all Z-Wave devices. The ultimate range is determined by the specific structure of your home and the strength of your mesh network (hardwired or non-battery powered devices).
Healing the network is a great place to start to resolve any connectivity issues. This function helps to refresh the mesh connections between your hub and all the devices in your network so that the hub can find the most efficient route to each device.
- Click on the Z-Wave Control Panel in Home Assistant
- Under Z-Wave Network Management, click Heal Network
If you've already healed the network and find you're still having an issue? Check out the steps below:
- Try excluding and re-including the ZAC38 Range Extender directly from the installation location. Exclusion can help refresh the mesh connections and allow the hub to devise the most efficient route of communication to the device.
- Move the Range Extender closer to the hub (make sure you exclude and re-include it from the new spot). If this resolves the issue, the previous spot may have been out of range.
- Try adding a non-battery powered device between the ZAC38 and the hub to act as a signal repeater. If the issue is caused by interference or range, a signal repeater can help strengthen and stabilize connectivity. After adding the repeater, it's a good idea to heal your network once more.
