Trouble including the ZEN75 Heavy Duty Switch to your SmartThings hub? Give exclusion a try!
The first thing to double check is that you have installed the Edge driver for the ZEN75. You can find the steps to install the new lua Edge driver here.
With the Edge driver installed, you can go ahead and give exclusion a try. The process acts as a type of soft Z-Wave reset that helps with any configuration or inclusion issues. You can exclude the ZEN75, or any Z-Wave device, even if it was never successfully included - the hub would simply confirm that an unknown device was removed.
Here's how you can exclude the ZEN75 from the SmartThings app:
- Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
-
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings
- Tap Z-Wave Utilities
- Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
- While the app is searching for a device, tap the lower paddle 3 times quickly (the LED indicator will start blinking)
- The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done
Once SmartThings sends a message confirming the device was removed, try including the ZEN75 again using the process shown here.
Here are some additional troubleshoots if the above did not help:
- Factory Reset the ZEN75
- Give the exclusion process another try! It's possible the command from the first run wasn't registered correctly.
- When excluding more than once, and not receiving confirmation it was removed, try tapping the lower paddle 4-5 times quickly. This can help make sure the commands go through.
- If the LED indicator is responsive to the inclusion/exclusion/reset commands but still not successfully including:
- Try adding a Z-Wave signal repeater (switch, relay, smart plug, dedicated repeater - any Z-Wave device that doesn't rely on battery power) between the switch and hub. Make sure to heal the network so that the hub recognizes the new device. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes.
- Try bringing the hub within direct range of the switch if the switch is located far away from the hub. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out!
