Trouble including the ZEN32 Scene Controller to your SmartThings hub? Give exclusion a try!
The first thing to double check is that you have installed the Edge driver for the ZEN32. You can find the steps to install the new lua Edge driver here.
With the Edge driver installed, you can go ahead and give exclusion a try. It may sound strange, but exclusion is just a reset. A device doesn't need to be included to be able to be excluded. However, please note that exclusion before inclusion applies to the 700 series and earlier chip sets. The 800 series devices will not exclude before they have been included; please factory reset the unit instead, then try inclusion again.
Here's how you can exclude the ZEN32 from the SmartThings app:
- Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
-
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings
- Tap Z-Wave Utilities
- Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
- While the app is searching for a device, tap the switch button (biggest button) 3 times quickly (the LED indicator will start blinking blue)
- The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done
Once SmartThings sends a message confirming the device was removed, try including the Scene Controller again using the process shown here.
If your ZEN32 is still having trouble being paired after exclusion, here are some other things to try:
- Try to exclude the device again. Commands may not always go through correctly on the first try, so going through the process again can be helpful.
- When trying to include, click the main button 4-5 times as quickly as possible, in case 3 clicks isn't enough or isn't being recognized.
- Bring the hub closer to the ZEN32, or add a Z-Wave signal repeating device between the hub and Scene Controller, to rule out any range issues. A signal repeater can be any Z-Wave device not being powered by batteries.
- If you were able to include the ZEN32 but it isn't responding to Z-Wave commands, check out these connectivity troubleshooting tips.
