Your ZEN71 On/Off Switch will look best with the right matching wall plate.
If you're looking for your 700 series switch to match the color of your existing wall plates, or need new wall plates for your smart home, then Leviton white wall plates would match best. You can most likely find these in your local hardware store.
For 3-way installations or set-ups including more than 1 switch, if you need your mechanical on / off switches to match then we would also recommend Leviton white on / off switches. Zooz switches can't be used with add-on switches in 3-or more-way locations and have to be wired to mechanical on/off 3-way switches at the other end of the installation.
Looking for other paddle colors? This model has replaceable paddles in brown, black, and light almond colors. You can find different color paddles sold separately here.
Preparing for the installation. Gather the tools you'll need and closely read the wiring instructions provided with your Zooz switch BEFORE beginning the installation. We do include a neutral jumper needed in most installs in the box with your Zooz switch, but if you need additional wire or wire nuts to complete the installation, then the recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.
Screws: always use the included short wall plate screws and not the standard long wall plate screws.
Please read: Make sure you're connecting an appropriate load to the switch. The maximum loads for the ZEN71 are 960W for incandescent lighting, 150W for LED and CFL bulbs, and 1800W (15A) for resistive loads, or 3A for fan motors. The ZEN71 Switch is not rated to control a receptacle and we do not recommend mixing incandescent and LED bulbs in the same fixture. You can read more about what can or cannot be connected to Zooz switches here: General Questions about Zooz Light Switches.
Here are a few tips before starting your installation:
- Double check the wiring diagram! Diagrams for single pole installations can be found under each switch's product page, while 3-or more-way diagrams are located right here in our Knowledge Base as well as within the ZEN71's manual.
- Identify all of your wires FIRST. Zooz switches may be wired differently than your existing switches, and can even have a different wiring diagram than a different model Zooz switch. For example, the ZEN76 wires differently than your ZEN71. Use this guide to properly identify your wires before installing.
- Do you have neutral wiring? All Zooz switches require neutral for installation. Not sure if you have it? Contact us!
- Hire a licensed electrician. If you don't feel confident around an electrical installation, then we would recommend hiring a professional to help with the installation to make sure there are no issues.
- Send us a message! The wiring of your house could differ from what's in the diagram and that's okay. Submit a ticket with your order number for your unit (to verify the model, Amazon order numbers are fine too!) and images of the wiring in each switch box (to ensure the most accurate directions) and we'll be happy to assist with custom wiring instructions.
