Have the ZEN73 installed in no time with the right tools!

How to Prepare for the Install: We recommend collecting the tools you'll need and reading the instructions included in the ZEN73 box BEFORE beginning the installation. There is also a neutral jumper in the box which is needed in most installs, but if you need additional wire or wire nuts to complete the installation, then the recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.

Check the Load: Make sure the lights you're connecting are within the ZEN73's specifications. The maximum load ratings for the ZEN73 are 150W for LED and CFL bulbs, 600W for incandescent lighting, or 8A. The ZEN73 toggle CANNOT be used to control a fan or receptacle. We also don't recommend mixing incandescent and LED bulbs within the same fixture. Check out this helpful article to know exactly what can or cannot be connected to Zooz switches: General Questions about Zooz Light Switches.

Here are some helpful tricks before you begin your installation:

  • Follow the correct wiring instructions. The wiring diagram for a single pole installation can be found under the ZEN73's product page, while 3-or more-way diagrams are located right here in our Knowledge Base or within the ZEN73 Manual.
  • Identify the wires in your switch box. Your existing switches might have different wiring than Zooz switches, or if you're replacing a Zooz switch with the ZEN73, then it can also have a different wiring diagram. Use this guide to properly identify your wires before installing.
  • Make sure you have neutral. All Zooz switches require neutral for installation. Reach out to us if you're not sure if your switch box has neutral!
  • Use the provided short screws! The long screws that come with the wall plate will damage the switch.
  • Bring in a licensed electrician. Electrical installations are no joke so we would recommend hiring a professional to help install the switch for your own safety.
  • Contact us with questions. What's in your switch might be different than what's shown in the diagram and that's fine! Send us a ticket with your order number (to verify the switch model, Amazon order numbers are good too!) and images of the wiring in each switch box (so that we can send the most accurate directions) and we'll have custom wiring instructions for you in no time.

Reach out to us if you need any help with your ZEN73 installation.
