If you're having trouble adding your ZEN51 to HomeSeer, you may need to try exclusion first. This process can be done with any Z-Wave device, on any Z-Wave hub, at any time, regardless of the device's inclusion status
The exclusion process simply acts as a soft reset and can be done even if you haven't paired the ZEN51 to HomeSeer or another Z-Wave network before.
Zooz products are officially integrated with the Z-Wave Plus and the Z-Wave JS Front-End of HomeSeer. If you're experiencing issues with accessing the advanced settings of your device or the unit not properly displaying, we would recommend first updating to the Z-Wave Plus or the Z-Wave JS Front-End, then excluding and re-including your device to your network in order for it to be recognized correctly.
Important Note: A steady, blinking green is the standard state for the device; as long as the unit has power, it will blink green at a steady pace. The device has an internal relay, which can turn on and off with a click of the Z-Wave button. This means that when you are attempting to include or exclude the device, the clicks need to happen as fast as possible; if the clicks are not completed fast enough, the relay will engage instead and the device will not enter inclusion or exclusion mode. You will know you have clicked fast enough when the LED indicator begins flashing rapidly.
Here are the steps for excluding the ZEN51 Dry Contact Relay in HomeSeer:
- In the HomeSeer UI, click the "Plugins;" from the drop-down menu, select "Z-Wave."
- Select "Remove Device."
- You will be taken to a new page; click "Continue" to start the exclusion process on the hub.
- Click the Z-Wave button 3 times very quickly (the LED indicator will start flashing). Alternatively, if the relay is already installed behind a switch, you can simply toggle the external switch connected to ZEN51 very quickly from off to on, so: "up-down, up-down, up-down." Check out the video linked here to show you how this process works!
- HomeSeer should confirm the device was removed. Finalize by clicking "Finish."
Once the exclusion process is successfully finalized, try including the device to HomeSeer.
Here are some additional troubleshoots if the above did not help:
- Give the exclusion process another try! It's possible the command from the first run wasn't registered correctly.
- When excluding more than once, and not receiving confirmation it was removed, try clicking the Z-Wave button 4-5 times quickly. This can help make sure the commands go through.
- If you have a Z-Wave signal repeater available (switch, relay, smart plug, dedicated repeater - any Z-Wave device that doesn't rely on battery power), try placing it between the relay and hub. Make sure to heal the network so that the hub recognizes the new device. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes.
- Try bringing the hub within direct range of the relay if the relay is located far away from the hub. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out!
- If your relay has successfully connected but it's not responding to Z-Wave commands, check out these tips for troubleshooting connectivity.
